Senegals don't usually breed until they are about 3 or 4 years old and will normally lay between 2 and 3 eggs. The young will leave the nest at around 9 weeeks and are independant at around 12 weeks. They have a typical grey head or hood, green body and a bright yellow v shape down the front. ( this colour can be orange or red too). Sexing is difficult and is only really guaranteed by DNA testing. In general the hen has a smaller more round head and often the v shape is longer. The male is often said to have a flatter head.

An important thing to consider when thinking about buying a Senegal (like any other parrot) is that they can live for around 20 to 30 years. They need lots of love, attention, time, food but given these they make an excellent pet. They are usually no more than 8 or 9 inches long.
